Best Moisturizers, Lotions, and Facial Masks for Winter

I love the winter time except for one thing what it does to me skin. It definitely can be drying to the skin, and I don’t have dry skin normally. These are the best moisturizers that I love using for winter. Some of these I’ve mentioned in past beauty reviews but I added some new ones. These all work wonderfully for you if you have very dry skin during this cold season.

   MASKS:

Blue Glamglow Thirstymud hydrating treatment: This stuff is amazing, especially if you have very dry skin. You just place a good layer amount, let it soak in for about 5 to 10 minutes and then either rince or rub the excess product in which is what I do.

Glamglow Flasmud brightening treatment:  If you skin tends to be extremely dull or dry this time of the year, definitely try this brightening mask on. It has a scrub in it to get rid of the yucky dead skin while brightening your complexion one warning thought, after you remove the scrub, you must wear a sunscreen, even its cold out because it will protect your skin from pollutants and any chemical looking burns. I’ve never had any trouble with this priduct.

   Facial Moisturizers:

Well my favorite face moisturizer is obviously the Soap & Glory Moisturizer with the Beauty and Sleep Accelerator. I’ve talked about how amazing this product is and it’s perfect for winter, especially if you’re traveling.

MAC Complete Comfort Cream: I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned this cream in the past but it’s a perfect cream for winter. I use it a lot this time of the year and I recommend it. MAC also has a Studio Moisture Cream that is good but the comfort cream is better.

Eye Creams:

The best hydrating eye cream that I’ve tried and have used for awhile is the Rose Hydrating gel eye cream by FRESH!

Another great eye cream that is moisturizing and gets rid of puffy eyes is the Soap & Glory Puffy Attack-Turbo-boost hydragel.

   Body Lotion:

I normally stick to my my HEMP lotion, which is amazing but when my legs are extremely dry and the HEMP isn’t working the best, I grab my huge jar of the Soap & Glory, Moisture Extreme, body moisturizer. This stuff is the best and helps the dead skin become softer on the bottom of your feet.

Hope these moisturizers, tips and tricks work for you! Leave a comment below if you’ve tried any of these products, are using them, or just have a question.

Updated Nighttime Skincare Routine

I start my nighttime routine with makeup remover. I use Garnier Cleansing Micellar Water which my friend recommended awhile ago to me and I still love using. It’s gentle on the eyes and lips. There are different versions of this remover depending on your skin type but my favorite is the pink one that is great for all skin types. I take a cotton pad and soak it in the remover. Then I gently place it on my closed eye for a few seconds. Then I gently wipe away my eye makeup. Your eyes and the skin around them are very delicate so you need to always be careful and never be harsh to your skin. I then remove the rest of my makeup.

Next I use my “Fresh Soy Face Cleanser,” which I’ve also used for a long time. I think it was the first product from “Fresh” I ever bought and I’m very glad I did. It’s also safe and gentle on the eyes and lips. (By the way, I know I’m mentioning Fresh products a lot in this and my previous post, but it’s because I really love and believe in their brand and a lot of the things I have from them, I’ve used for awhile and they still work really well for me. Fresh isn’t the only good skincare line out there.   There are a HUGE amount of brands out there for all skin types and in all different price ranges.)

My next step changes depending on the day, like how I switch off my exfoliator and cleanser in my morning routine. One day I’ll use the “Fresh Deep Hydration Facial Toner” and the next day I love using the “Fresh Rose Face Mask.” This is my favorite mask and you can use it daily if you want to. It tones and hydrates your complexion, has real rose petals that literally melt into your skin, and is very soothing.

My last step is to moisturize. For my eye cream I use, can you guess, “Fresh Rose Hydrating Eye Gel Cream.” For the rest of my face, my go to is my “Beauty Sleep Accelerator, Night and Flight Moisture Miracle,” by another brand that I’ve mentioned a lot in the past and love, “Soap and Glory.” It’s a wonderful product, especially if your skin tends to get dry. It’s also the perfect moisturizer if you travel a lot, which can dry out your skin. I love the clean smell of it and it’s not expensive at all.

Usually twice a week or more, depending on the weather, I like using a night treatment. I don’t need to use my normal moisturizer if I’m doing a treatment. I usually use Glamglow. My favorite is the “Glamglow Dreamduo, Overnight Transforming Treatment.” It adds collagen and plumps up your skin. I also like the blue “Glamglow Thirsty Mud Hydrating Treatment.” It deeply hydrates and replenishes the complexion.

I hope you enjoyed this post and that this can hopefully give you ideas if you’re wanting to change up your own skin care routine or just want to try new products out.

Updated Morning Skincare Routine

As many people do, I’ve updated my skincare routine, since I last talked about it a while ago. Your skin changes over time and the products you use might not be as effective as before. The weather and the seasons also play a big factor in your complexion causing you to maybe change up your routine with new products specifically for that time of the year. With that said, there are products that I have used for a long time that still work very well for me so it can definitely vary. Everything I use in both my morning and nighttime routines I will list below of course and are products I believe in and I recommend all of them to try. My skin is definitely happy with how it looks.

I switch off on two products I start with in the morning. One day I’ll start with “Boscia detoxifying black cleanser” and the next day I use “Origins Ginzing refreshing scrub cleanser.” Depending on your skin, you might not want to exfoliate  more than once or twice a week, especially if it’s a harsher scrub like St. Ives. The ginzing scrub is extremely gentle so I can exfoliate and not worry that it’s going to tear up my skin.

After cleansing, I use a toner to get rid of any impurities that might still be lingering and it  preps and clarifies your complexion. You probably already know my toner that I absolutely in love with which is, “Fresh Rose Floral Toner.” Fresh is my favorite skincare line, especially the rose collection. This toner is amazing and it is very calming and hydrating on the skin.

My next step is moisturize. This changes for me. If I’m going to use a primer that  has moisturizing properties such as “Bobbi Brown’s Vitamin-Enriched Face Base” or “Stila’s One Step Correct,” I don’t need an extra moisturizer. They can be used as both a moisturizer and primer. If you are using a primer that’s not as moisturizing, I use “Fresh Rose Hydrating Gel Cream,” which is something I started using almost a month ago and I’m really loving it. Also if my eyes are dark underneath, I use “Origins Ginzing Refreshing eye cream,” for de-puffing and brightening.

Next I brush my teeth and then apply a lip scrub to keep my lips soft and to prep them for lipstick. Like me talking about the “Fresh” brand, you can probably guess my favorite lip scrub because I’ve talked about it a lot. Yes it is Jeffree Star Cosmetics “Velour lip scrub.”

After I finish my morning routine, my skin is ready for priming and makeup.

Items that You Don’t Realize Make a Difference

These are products that people don’t always think about to think to incorporate into their skincare and make up regimen. I was one of those people a long time ago until I learned about these products when they first hit the beauty market and tried them out. After I first tried them, I wondered how I ever went without using these. All these products can make a huge difference when doing your makeup and skin care as well as changing and improving your skin. Of course you can get away with not using any of these items but once you try them, I guarantee that you’ll have a hard time not including them in your daily beauty ritual.

1. Toner- One of the main benefits of toning your skin is that it rids your skin of impurities. Facial toners are used after washing your face and before moisturizing your skin and can be used day and/or night. If you use a toner at night after removing your makeup, you rid your face of any excess makeup and oil residue that your remover and cleanser might not get. If your skin tends to be oily or acne-prone, toners can help a lot in clearing up and improving the quality of your skin.

To tone your skin, apply a dime to quarter size amount to a cotton pad/ball and gently rub it on your face. Never be harsh to your skin. You’ll be able to actually see all the impurities that were left behind on the pad. Once you’re done toning, apply your moisturizer as usual. Once you start toning on a regular basis, you’ll be able to see a difference pretty quickly in the appearance and feel of your skin.

Here are some of favorite toners. You’ve probably seen and read my reviews on some of these in the past. That’s how much I like and recommend these.

FRESH Rose floral toner spray- infused with soothing rosewater

THAYERS Natural Remedies, alcohol-free witch hazel toner

BENEFIT moisture prep toning lotion

2. Face Primer- The main function of a makeup primer is to increase the wear and longevity of your makeup. You apply it to your skin and usually wait a minute to let it work on your skin before you apply your makeup. Makeup primers even out the surface of your skin and doesn’t allow makeup to seep into your pores which can cause skin issues such as acne. Primers can help smooth any fine lines, wrinkles, and minimize pores. There is an endless amount of face primers on the market. They make them for all different skin types and some also have a “blurring effect,” which can camouflage imperfections and give you a flawless complexion. They can be worn with or without makeup. Some primers can also double as moisturizers as well.

Some of my favorite face primers include,

BOBBI BROWN Vitamin Enriched Face Base

STILA One step correct, skin tone correcting and brightening serum

SOAP & GLORY One Heck of a Blot Primer, instant perfecting power primer, with shine bloc 12 hr Matte Spheres and PORE-SHRINK technology

3. Eye Lid/Shadow Primer- You know when you wet your eye shadow brush to intensify the color and pigment of eye shadow? Eyeshadow primer does the same thing but better. People ask why you can’t use face primer on your eye lids and it’s because a lot of regular primers aren’t safe around the delicate area of your eyes. Lid primer like makeup primer keeps your makeup in place specifically your eye makeup from fading and shifting. It keeps your shadow from creasing as well which is always a good thing. A lot of people use their concealer as eye lid primer but I personally like the actual eye shadow primers better

Another purpose and tip for lid primer is to apply it under your eyes before you apply under eye concealer to keep it from creasing just like it prevents creasing on your eye shadow.

Suggested eye shadow primers,

THE BALM- Put a Lid on it, eyelid primer

M.A.C- Pro Longer Paint Pot

URBAN DECAY- Eyeshadow Primer Potion

  4. Lip Scrub- Using a lip scrub definitely makes a difference when applying your lipstick. The purpose of a lip scrub is to get rid of the dead skin to make your lips smoother and easier to apply lip color and to make it look more even. It gently exfoliates your lips and leave them feeling extra soft and supple. If your lips are prone to to being chapped, scrubs can help that problem. Many lip scrubs also smell and taste yummy because of the sugar in the scrub and if the scrub is vegan, they are also edible. I prefer vegan edible lip scrubs.

These are my favorite lip scrubs:

JEFFREE STAR COSMETICS velour lip scrub in Strawberry Gum

BURT’S BEE’S sugar scrub

CHAPSTICK hydration lip scrub

41G1vr4HD5L._SY355_

HERE IS A LITTLE RECIPE ON MAKING YOUR OWN SCRUB AS WELL:

INGREDIENTS – Tablespoon of brown sugar or white sugar
-A dash of honey (just enough to make the sugar really stick together) OR a bit of olive oil/coconut oil
-A teeny tiny little drop of vanilla (it makes it smell yummy, but isn’t necessary.)
-A small container

DIRECTIONS AND HOW TO USE-

Mix a tablespoon of brown sugar with just enough honey (or olive oil) to get it to stick together. Once a week (twice at the very max) rub the scrub onto your lips, vigorously enough to loosen the dead skin.

Let it sit for 1 minute, and then wipe off with a damp washcloth. Apply lip balm after use.

5. Makeup Setting Spray- Setting Spray is the “TOPCOAT” to your makeup. It’s similar to a makeup primer. It keeps your makeup in place and keep it lasting throughout the day. Especially during this time of the year where the weather is getting hotter and hotter, setting spray is essential in keeping your makeup from melting and sliding off your face. You obviously apply setting spray when you’re finished with your makeup but you can also spray it throughout the day to refresh your look and to keep your skin hydrated.

My top favorite making sprays include,

URBAN DECAY ALL NIGHTER long-lasting spray

M.A.C  Prep and Prime Fix

MAKEUP FOREVER Mist and Fix
