Music by Aurelio Voltaire

You might remember my post on my favorite spooky, gothic, Halloween loving channels,

My Favorite Halloween/Gothic/Spooky Channels and Spooky Shows

where I talked about the youtube channel, “The Lair of Voltaire.” I didn’t mention that he is a long term musician with a new album coming out. I just listened to some of his music and I really like it. He has a huge extensive musical and performance background. It sounds like a mix of the 80’s original goth movement mixed with modern rock. I love what I’ve heard and you should definitely check out his vid for his new album where you can pre-order it.

Even tho my makeup style is mostly  vintage pinup and old hollywood glam, I love trying new makeup looks and doing different tutorials. I definitely rocked gothic makeup in high school, surprise surprise but at times I went a little too heavy handed with my black makeup. For my “Mrs. Freddy Krueger” and my “Gothic Halloween Beauty” shoot, I wanted to create a dark and smoky look infused with glitter and glam and I’m very happy with how it turned out. Here are the makeup products I used and how I applied them.

FOUNDATION: Marc Jacobs Re(mark)able, Ivory 10.

EYESHADOWS:

The first eye color put on my lids was the color ‘Vanity’ from the Jeffree Star Cosmetics “Beauty Killer” palette. After wetting a synthetic brush with my MAC prep & prime, I then applied ‘Black Rainbow’ also from the Beauty Killer palette over ‘Vanity.’ Wetting the brush and then dipping it into ‘Black Rainbow’ makes the black more intense  without looking blotchy and makes the sparkle really pop. Under the brow bone. I used an eyeshadow color that I never use….. shimmery white shadow. I really dislike white shimmer shadow but it happened to work with this look. I used the color ‘Lily’ from my Models Own “Vintage Rose” palette which is a fabulous palette with eyeshadow like butter so atleast I was using a white shimmer from a palette I love. I applied it just underneath the brow bone and blended it out to give my shadow colors a nice gradation.

I love Stila’s metal metallic (Glitter and Go) liquid shadows and recently had purchased the color, ‘Molten Mignight’ which is black shadow with glitter. I used it as eyeliner as well as in the inner corners of my eyes and applied it with my finger to intensify it. The last eye shadow I used was Colourpop’s Super Shock shadow, ‘New Magic’ from the “Dusk Till Dawn” collection. These are one of the best glitter shadows I’ve ever used and they are cream and feel soft and bouncy while the glitter is mess free which I love. Again I used my finger to apply the beautiful white glitter barely in the inner corners of my eyes but not so I covered my Stila liquid glitter shadow. I used the white glitter closer to my nose. I then also patted ‘New Magic’ under my eyes, dragging it towards my cheeks.

OTHER EYE MAKEUP PRODUCTS:

The rest of my eye makeup included me taking a flat shadow brush and smoking out a little ‘Black Rainbow’ under my eyes. I also used my Urban Decay 24/7 waterline eye liner as my only liner in this look. I used my new favorite mascara, “Lights, Camera, Lashes” by Tarte and Anastasia’s “Dipbrow” in ‘Chocolate.’

LAST MAKEUP PRODUCTS TO COMPLETE MY LOOK :

You May not be able to tell in every photo but I did use blush and highlighter. For blush I used ‘Romantic” from Stila. For highlighter I  changed it up a bit. For my highlight, I used ‘Wink’ which is actually a shimmer shadow from the “Feline Fancy” palette from one of my all time favorite makeup companies, Sugarpill Cosmetics. I can’t rave enough about them.  For my lips, I used their brand new limited edition liquid lip color, ‘Trick’ which is a gorgeous witchy matte black color with metallic green and orange sparkles. It was the absolute perfect lipstick to complete this look.

I had a lot of fun creating and wearing this makeup look. I hope you try recreating this look and try one or all of the products used. I’d love to see all of your spooky sex kitten looks.

Gothic Halloween Beauty Photoshoot

I’ve been enjoying doing my spooky October posts and when my gal Sarah Mushenheim (lifewithlilred) asked to do a Halloween collaboration post, I was all too happy. Anything that has to do with Halloween makes me happy. Stay tuned for Sarah’s Halloween post coming soon as well.

The second photoshoot I did after my “Mrs. Freddy Krueger” was more of a “Spooky Sex Kitten” shoot with my custom-made vinyl cork screw boots, a black criss cross mini dress, and my sexy “bedroom wave” wig, (which by the way, I loved how I looked and wished my hair actually looked like that especially with that particular hair cut. We rotated taking both color and black and white/monochrome photographs. With my hair style and the dark makeup, I almost felt like a French or silent movie actress. I was felt very confident shooting yesterday which made it that more fun.

Since I wasn’t doing a typical Halloween shoot where you just dress up in any costume and stand there,  I came up with the idea to utilize my Halloween decorations and props in each photo. I thought the juxtaposition would look really cool and give the pictures a spooky and edgy but beautiful look. Here is my GOTHIC HALLOWEEN BEAUTY set. Hope you enjoy my photos and post and comment down below about what some of your favorite costumes have been.

Mrs. Freddy Krueger

This past Sunday, I did a photo shoot inspired by my favorite horror movie character, Freddy Krueger. If you’ve known me for awhile and/or followed my site here, you already know how much I love Robert Engund aka Freddy Krueger and that I have one of the autographed gloves from the movie series, and that I’ve dressed up like him and done shoots inspired by him many times. This Freddy Krueger shoot however was different.

This shoot is a collaboration with my good friend Haley Murin. If you don’t remember, Haley is one of the owners and artists of Street Trash Art along with her talented fiance’ Dustin Tyler that made by amazing Nightmare on Elm Street hoodie that I rocked in San Francisco. We traded Freddy hoodies. Haley and I don’t live close which is really unfortunate but I believe we are definitely psychically linked because we both happened to acquire the exact same pair of Nightmare on Elm Street socks. I thought that it was funny and cool that we have such similar taste that I thought taking photos of us in our Freddy gear would be a cool and fun idea…. and I was right.

I donned a black and burgundy wig and did a black glittery smoky eye look topped with my new black and orange glitter lipstick. I also had my collectible Freddy Krueger bronze mold also from the movie as a prop to show off. The weather is started to finally cool down by me so taking hoodie photos with my matching knee socks outside without sweating to death was really nice.

I really enjoyed doing this shoot and I can’t wait to see Haley’s pictures which I will post side by side soon. She is such a sweet and cool person and I’m very glad I met and have become friends with her.

Hope you enjoy my photos. Let me know below. Who are your favorite horror characters? What are your favorite horror films?

76 Days Till Halloween

IMG_7087

Even though we are in the month of August and I’m in the middle of doing different summer posts such as my “10 Looks for Summer,” which by the way I have three more summer outfit inspirations to show, I thought I would take a moment to talk about my favorite holiday, HALLOWEEN or SAMHAIN (The Witches New Year.) I’m already taking orders and working on commissions specifically with extra spooky themes such as my gargoyle candy jars that I posted and talked about on my new art site, http://carliemichellesoratartworld.com/blog/ (which you should definitely check out and follow if you haven’t already.)

I’m so excited for the countdown to Halloween and I already want to take out my decorations to put out. Not that my house doesn’t have a bunch of spooky cool stuff out ALL YEAR ROUND like my authentic autographed Freddy Krueger glove that was used as one of the gloves in the films, my Freddy Krueger face mold, my skull collection, my horror movie posters, etc., but you can never have enough. I’ve already gotten some new decor for my house and I plan on starting my Halloween shopping this weekend since a lot of the stores like Michael’s, Cost Plus, and Pier 1. It’s never too early to start shopping for Halloween. I figure if people can start buying stuff for Christmas in June, I can start buying stuff for Halloween.

With all the craziness that’s been going on, I feel more connected to Halloween than usual and wanted to get people early into the Halloween spirit. To continue with that, I decided to do a post after this on my sexy Heavy Metal Horror sister, Angela. For those of you who don’t remember, a few years ago I did a feature on her ( https://bombshell2016.blog/2016/01/05/heavy-metal-witch-angela/ ). If you didn’t see it, go check it out now. I’ve known her for a little over four years now (Wow time goes by fast) and I consider her to be like a sister. She is very special to me and has many talents. One of these talents include doing INCREDIBLE  makeup looks, most of which are horror based. I wanted to show off some of her talent as well as some of her fantastic horror tattoos, so stay tuned to the post after this.

Here are my questions of the day. First do you like Halloween? What are some of your favorite things to do for Halloween? What are your favorite Halloween traditions? I’m curious to hear what everyone says. Let me know and enjoy the countdown to the best holiday of the year.

-Samantha and the Makeup Monsters Team

After this post, I will show the actual swatches of my lipsticks and how they look on me. The first thing I caught my attention about this brand is the name. Glamour, Monsters, and makeup, how could have I not checked this brand out? The second thing that caught my eye was of course the packaging. The packaging designs are gorgeous. I’m obsessed with the black rose and thorny vines design and when I received my package and I opened the box, the tissue paper had that gorgeous print, plus a little unicorn fox sticker which I thought was so cute. I’m also a huge supporter of indie makeup brands, whether it’s makeup, clothes, etc. So another reason I wanted to check Monster Makeup out.

I ordered the Kitty mini liquid bundle and two lip toppers in, “Elemental” and “Flora Moonlight,”

IMG_5973

The first thing I opened was the mini lip bundle. Even though I’ve been trying to be good when buying lipsticks, I want to get the bundle because they are mini liquid lipsticks and the bundle has colors that I don’t normally have in my collection. The best thing about this bundle is that they are ALL MATTE liquid lipsticks. The Kitty lip bundle packaging was adorable. The frosted lipsticks with the signature black and thorn vines design looked VERY EXPENSIVE even though this isn’t a high expensive cosmetic line which I was gagging for. When it comes to the liquid lipstick bundles,  even though I love the frosted lip packaging, you definitely need to open the lipsticks to see the actual colors cause they do little lighter in the packaging. I love all the colors in this lip bundle and I like I said, I don’t have many of these shades. Another good reason to buy the mini lip bundle. The lip applicator is one of the my favorite applicators. the pointed doe-foot applicator. The end of the applicator is triangular pointed like Smashbox and SugerPill lipstick applicators, which I love because after you apply lipstick, you can use the point of the applicator to line your lips after.

As far as the lipstick formulas, they are little drying like many liquid lipstick brands are but they’re not too uncomfortable. Also if you get this bundle, a lot of the colors are light so you might have to apply another coat after your first one dries. I did really like this lip bundle and it retails for $35.00.

IMG_5974

IMG_6123

Now for my review on the lip toppers. On Sam’s website, they have many colors to choose from and I chose “Flora” and “Elemental.” These toppers have the same back rose design and they look gorgeous in there tubes. I actually wore ‘Elemental” over my signature red lipstick at drag con. You can see it that close up picture of me posted. I ordered those two toppers because like the lip bundle, I don’t have those toppers. They aren’t glossy and smell yummy like the “Jouer” lip toppers but the colors are beautiful and dry very quickly. Because they aren’t super glossy, they dry fast but aren’t uncomfortable at all and also look sexy over lipstick and just by itself. The lip toppers retail for $17.95.

I definitely recommend checking out Monster Makeup Cosmetics and to order anything them them, head up to Sam’s bio on how she created her business and she lists her info and where to find her products. I pre-ordered their new “DRAGON CHILD” eye shadow palette which is their first eye- shadow palette and I can’t wait to get it next month so I can see how good their eye shadows are. DEFINITELY GO CHECK OUT MONSTER MAKEUP COSMETICS WEBSITE AND IF YOU HAVE AND QUESTIONS, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO LEAVE THEM IN MY COMMENT SECTION! THANK YOU DARLINGS!
