Updated Nighttime Skincare Routine

I start my nighttime routine with makeup remover. I use Garnier Cleansing Micellar Water which my friend recommended awhile ago to me and I still love using. It’s gentle on the eyes and lips. There are different versions of this remover depending on your skin type but my favorite is the pink one that is great for all skin types. I take a cotton pad and soak it in the remover. Then I gently place it on my closed eye for a few seconds. Then I gently wipe away my eye makeup. Your eyes and the skin around them are very delicate so you need to always be careful and never be harsh to your skin. I then remove the rest of my makeup.

Next I use my “Fresh Soy Face Cleanser,” which I’ve also used for a long time. I think it was the first product from “Fresh” I ever bought and I’m very glad I did. It’s also safe and gentle on the eyes and lips. (By the way, I know I’m mentioning Fresh products a lot in this and my previous post, but it’s because I really love and believe in their brand and a lot of the things I have from them, I’ve used for awhile and they still work really well for me. Fresh isn’t the only good skincare line out there.   There are a HUGE amount of brands out there for all skin types and in all different price ranges.)

My next step changes depending on the day, like how I switch off my exfoliator and cleanser in my morning routine. One day I’ll use the “Fresh Deep Hydration Facial Toner” and the next day I love using the “Fresh Rose Face Mask.” This is my favorite mask and you can use it daily if you want to. It tones and hydrates your complexion, has real rose petals that literally melt into your skin, and is very soothing.

My last step is to moisturize. For my eye cream I use, can you guess, “Fresh Rose Hydrating Eye Gel Cream.” For the rest of my face, my go to is my “Beauty Sleep Accelerator, Night and Flight Moisture Miracle,” by another brand that I’ve mentioned a lot in the past and love, “Soap and Glory.” It’s a wonderful product, especially if your skin tends to get dry. It’s also the perfect moisturizer if you travel a lot, which can dry out your skin. I love the clean smell of it and it’s not expensive at all.

Usually twice a week or more, depending on the weather, I like using a night treatment. I don’t need to use my normal moisturizer if I’m doing a treatment. I usually use Glamglow. My favorite is the “Glamglow Dreamduo, Overnight Transforming Treatment.” It adds collagen and plumps up your skin. I also like the blue “Glamglow Thirsty Mud Hydrating Treatment.” It deeply hydrates and replenishes the complexion.

I hope you enjoyed this post and that this can hopefully give you ideas if you’re wanting to change up your own skin care routine or just want to try new products out.

Updated Morning Skincare Routine

As many people do, I’ve updated my skincare routine, since I last talked about it a while ago. Your skin changes over time and the products you use might not be as effective as before. The weather and the seasons also play a big factor in your complexion causing you to maybe change up your routine with new products specifically for that time of the year. With that said, there are products that I have used for a long time that still work very well for me so it can definitely vary. Everything I use in both my morning and nighttime routines I will list below of course and are products I believe in and I recommend all of them to try. My skin is definitely happy with how it looks.

I switch off on two products I start with in the morning. One day I’ll start with “Boscia detoxifying black cleanser” and the next day I use “Origins Ginzing refreshing scrub cleanser.” Depending on your skin, you might not want to exfoliate  more than once or twice a week, especially if it’s a harsher scrub like St. Ives. The ginzing scrub is extremely gentle so I can exfoliate and not worry that it’s going to tear up my skin.

After cleansing, I use a toner to get rid of any impurities that might still be lingering and it  preps and clarifies your complexion. You probably already know my toner that I absolutely in love with which is, “Fresh Rose Floral Toner.” Fresh is my favorite skincare line, especially the rose collection. This toner is amazing and it is very calming and hydrating on the skin.

My next step is moisturize. This changes for me. If I’m going to use a primer that  has moisturizing properties such as “Bobbi Brown’s Vitamin-Enriched Face Base” or “Stila’s One Step Correct,” I don’t need an extra moisturizer. They can be used as both a moisturizer and primer. If you are using a primer that’s not as moisturizing, I use “Fresh Rose Hydrating Gel Cream,” which is something I started using almost a month ago and I’m really loving it. Also if my eyes are dark underneath, I use “Origins Ginzing Refreshing eye cream,” for de-puffing and brightening.

Next I brush my teeth and then apply a lip scrub to keep my lips soft and to prep them for lipstick. Like me talking about the “Fresh” brand, you can probably guess my favorite lip scrub because I’ve talked about it a lot. Yes it is Jeffree Star Cosmetics “Velour lip scrub.”

After I finish my morning routine, my skin is ready for priming and makeup.

New Skin Tips and Tricks

Here are some new TIPS and TRICKS for SKIN CARE. Some of these may sound logical and some of these may be new tips that maybe you haven’t thought about before. I hope these help for you. Enjoy!

1. If you have oily skin, apply your favorite moisturizer to ONLY the super dry areas! There’s no need to slather your moisturizer all over, UNLESS your WHOLE face is super dry.

2.  I think I’ve said this before in past blog posts but definitely use a PURIFICATION MASK once a week.

3. I believe I mentioned this briefly in a blog vid long time ago but after washing your face at night, use a toner to get rid of any gunk, impurities, or any excess makeup that your face wash didn’t catch.

4. Buy blotting sheets, there aren’t usually super expensive and I’m found the cheapest ones and one of the best ones are in CVS. If your skin tends to be oily throughout the day or your makeup is starting to sweat off you, blotting sheets are your best friends instead of caking on more powder which can clog pores causing breakouts and can be unhygienic.

5. I’ve talked about this in the past and might do a demo on this, but you must clean you beauty blenders at least once a week. Same goes for brushes otherwise you are going to cause more bacteria into your skin which is gross.

6. If you use a primer that can double as a moisturizer, you don’t need to add extra moisturizer before apply your primer.

7. If you get your eyebrows waxed or threaded, exfoliate your brow area the night before because if you exfoliate after you get your brows coiffed and then exfoliate, you can a lot of redness and a possible infection.

8. Last but now least, here’s a quick way to remove your makeup in the evening or if you are rushing to an event and need to do a another makeup look, use gentle makeup wipes, like the burt’s bees cucumber remover wipes, which are my favorite, and use a gently toner to either get rid of any excess dirt or to rehydrate your face. If you want to keep your eye makeup on, just gently rehydrate  a few inches away from my eyes and make sure they are closed and fan them with your hands or a pretty fan so it dries before opening your peepers!

My ritual is to cleanse my face with my soy cleanser and then use a cotton pad, or the other way around, to gently remove eye makeup, tone my face, and redo my makeup cause you all know I love my makeup and doing different looks.

But if you don’t have time for that, for instance, if you are going from work to a dinner, the makeup removing wipes are your best bet.

Items that You Don’t Realize Make a Difference

These are products that people don’t always think about to think to incorporate into their skincare and make up regimen. I was one of those people a long time ago until I learned about these products when they first hit the beauty market and tried them out. After I first tried them, I wondered how I ever went without using these. All these products can make a huge difference when doing your makeup and skin care as well as changing and improving your skin. Of course you can get away with not using any of these items but once you try them, I guarantee that you’ll have a hard time not including them in your daily beauty ritual.

1. Toner- One of the main benefits of toning your skin is that it rids your skin of impurities. Facial toners are used after washing your face and before moisturizing your skin and can be used day and/or night. If you use a toner at night after removing your makeup, you rid your face of any excess makeup and oil residue that your remover and cleanser might not get. If your skin tends to be oily or acne-prone, toners can help a lot in clearing up and improving the quality of your skin.

To tone your skin, apply a dime to quarter size amount to a cotton pad/ball and gently rub it on your face. Never be harsh to your skin. You’ll be able to actually see all the impurities that were left behind on the pad. Once you’re done toning, apply your moisturizer as usual. Once you start toning on a regular basis, you’ll be able to see a difference pretty quickly in the appearance and feel of your skin.

Here are some of favorite toners. You’ve probably seen and read my reviews on some of these in the past. That’s how much I like and recommend these.

FRESH Rose deep hydration facial toner with rose petal

FRESH Rose floral toner spray- infused with soothing rosewater

THAYERS Natural Remedies, alcohol-free witch hazel toner

BENEFIT moisture prep toning lotion

2. Face Primer- The main function of a makeup primer is to increase the wear and longevity of your makeup. You apply it to your skin and usually wait a minute to let it work on your skin before you apply your makeup. Makeup primers even out the surface of your skin and doesn’t allow makeup to seep into your pores which can cause skin issues such as acne. Primers can help smooth any fine lines, wrinkles, and minimize pores. There is an endless amount of face primers on the market. They make them for all different skin types and some also have a “blurring effect,” which can camouflage imperfections and give you a flawless complexion. They can be worn with or without makeup. Some primers can also double as moisturizers as well.

Some of my favorite face primers include,

BOBBI BROWN Vitamin Enriched Face Base

STILA One step correct, skin tone correcting and brightening serum

SOAP & GLORY One Heck of a Blot Primer, instant perfecting power primer, with shine bloc 12 hr Matte Spheres and PORE-SHRINK technology

bb_prod_E1LM_415x415_0

3. Eye Lid/Shadow Primer- You know when you wet your eye shadow brush to intensify the color and pigment of eye shadow? Eyeshadow primer does the same thing but better. People ask why you can’t use face primer on your eye lids and it’s because a lot of regular primers aren’t safe around the delicate area of your eyes. Lid primer like makeup primer keeps your makeup in place specifically your eye makeup from fading and shifting. It keeps your shadow from creasing as well which is always a good thing. A lot of people use their concealer as eye lid primer but I personally like the actual eye shadow primers better

Another purpose and tip for lid primer is to apply it under your eyes before you apply under eye concealer to keep it from creasing just like it prevents creasing on your eye shadow.

Suggested eye shadow primers,

THE BALM- Put a Lid on it, eyelid primer

M.A.C- Pro Longer Paint Pot

URBAN DECAY- Eyeshadow Primer Potion

  4. Lip Scrub- Using a lip scrub definitely makes a difference when applying your lipstick. The purpose of a lip scrub is to get rid of the dead skin to make your lips smoother and easier to apply lip color and to make it look more even. It gently exfoliates your lips and leave them feeling extra soft and supple. If your lips are prone to to being chapped, scrubs can help that problem. Many lip scrubs also smell and taste yummy because of the sugar in the scrub and if the scrub is vegan, they are also edible. I prefer vegan edible lip scrubs.

These are my favorite lip scrubs:

JEFFREE STAR COSMETICS velour lip scrub in Strawberry Gum

BURT’S BEE’S sugar scrub

CHAPSTICK hydration lip scrub

41G1vr4HD5L._SY355_

HERE IS A LITTLE RECIPE ON MAKING YOUR OWN SCRUB AS WELL:

INGREDIENTS – Tablespoon of brown sugar or white sugar
-A dash of honey (just enough to make the sugar really stick together) OR a bit of olive oil/coconut oil
-A teeny tiny little drop of vanilla (it makes it smell yummy, but isn’t necessary.)
-A small container

DIRECTIONS AND HOW TO USE-

Mix a tablespoon of brown sugar with just enough honey (or olive oil) to get it to stick together. Once a week (twice at the very max) rub the scrub onto your lips, vigorously enough to loosen the dead skin.

Let it sit for 1 minute, and then wipe off with a damp washcloth. Apply lip balm after use.

5. Makeup Setting Spray- Setting Spray is the “TOPCOAT” to your makeup. It’s similar to a makeup primer. It keeps your makeup in place and keep it lasting throughout the day. Especially during this time of the year where the weather is getting hotter and hotter, setting spray is essential in keeping your makeup from melting and sliding off your face. You obviously apply setting spray when you’re finished with your makeup but you can also spray it throughout the day to refresh your look and to keep your skin hydrated.

My top favorite making sprays include,

URBAN DECAY ALL NIGHTER long-lasting spray

M.A.C  Prep and Prime Fix

MAKEUP FOREVER Mist and Fix

Traveling in Style

53757683-tourist-girl-sitting-on-a-suitcase-travelling-by-plane-pop-art-retro-style-journey-and-adventure-hea

I’ve been packing and unpacking a lot this past year, so much that I could do it in my sleep. My last excursion  was to the Midwest for a business trip. I was in a city that I had never been to before so the tips below definitely helped me. I think I’ve definitely become somewhat of an expert in making sure I have everything I need when I travel without over doing it by packing everything but the kitchen sink. With that said, I wanted to share some traveling tips to remember when you’re getting yourself ready for a trip, whether it’s overnight, for a week, or a month.

IMG_2920

1. Weather Check- It’s a must to check to see what the weather will be like for the days you’re traveling. Also this saves you time and energy from over packing and guessing what your destination is going to be like.  I always look up the weather on my phone anyways, but usually a week before, I look up the place I’m traveling to on week at a time so I can keep track of the conditions there and I have a better idea of what and what not to bring.

2. Organization is Key- I know I’ve said this m ore than once in the past concerning different topics,  but making a check list, whether you use a pen and a piece of paper or keep your list in your phone, it’s good to write or type out all the essentials. This stops you from having an “OH FUCK,” moment when you realize you left something important at your house and don’t have time or can’t go back to get it.

3. Fashionably Comfortable- It’s very important to dress and be comfortable while traveling, especially if you’re flying. With that said, you don’t need to feel that the only way to be comfortable is to be in your pajamas or track suit if you don’t want to be. You can still rock your style. I usually will wear silk pants with a cute top or leggings with a rock and roll shirt. I also prefer to carry a good size handbag in case I want to bring my tablet or buy magazines, etc. I just stick them in my handbag and then my hands stay free and it’s more convenient.  I rarely wear shorts, skirts, or a dress unless they’re if flying because airplanes tend to be cold.

As far as shoes go, make sure they will be comfortable the whole time you travel to your destination. Also if you’re flying, you will definitely be asked to remove your shoes while going through security so wearing a pair that can easily be taken off and put back on is the more practical way to go. Oh and try not to wear a lot of jewelry with metal because you’ll also be asked to remove it.

Here are some fashion ideas that I’ve worn while traveling: Leggings with a rock and roll shirt, silk pants with a crop top, etc.

4.  Packing your jewelry and small items- I pack my jewelry, hair accessories and other small items in clear bags such he bigger size Ziploc bags. This way I can see and find exactly what I’m looking for and not. Even if it’s a nice piece, I’ll pack it with it’s protective box in a bag. It also saves my jewelry from getting tangled up by me rummaging trying to find a specific item.

5. Editing your Cosmetics and other beauty products- For this part, I decided to do a small video to show how I edit and choose what beauty items to pack without  over packing on products bringing every single color traveling  my cosmetics and other.

IMG_2919

I decided to do a video for this topic because I think it would be easier to explain visually how I decide what pack and what I use to pack my products in.

Think about what you need and use on a daily basis such as your cleanser, moisturizer, powder, etc., and focus on packing just that. When it comes to makeup, depending on how long your trip will be of course, you don’t need to bring every single color lipstick or eye shadow with you. Edit you makeup by what you wear the most. For example, I will definitely pack the foundation, concealer, and powder that I use the most.  Makeup palettes are definitely perfect for traveling because they have a variety of colors that usually all go together but are more compact than bringing a bunch of single pans. Some palettes, like the Rockstar palette by “The Balm Cosmetics,” even contain a blush, a highlighter, and lip/cheek stains.

6. Last Tip- My last travel tip is an obvious one but it’s to save some room in your luggage for any souvenirs you get while on your travels.

I hope this post and these tips work as ideas for the next time you travel. Thank you for reading.

Summer Skin Care

FullSizeRender (6)

It’s that time of the year again, SUMMER TIME! So when one of my truly wonderful girlfriends, Sarah (lifewithlilred.com)asked me to be a guest blogger for her summer series, I was all for it. For my “Salute To Summer” blog post, I talked about how to prevent your skin from getting sun burned and damaged in the hot sun. Here are some tips to help you and your skin enjoy this summer:

1. SUNSCREEN: This should be a no brainer, but you can’t believe how many people, especially where I live in Southern California, don’t bother to wear sunscreen. Not only do a lot of them opt for lounging in the sun unprotected, but they also do tanning beds (which I refuse to ever try) and spray on tans. Sunscreen is a god send for not just my fair skin but for my girl, Sarah, who has such a gorgeous porcelain skin tone, herself!

As far as sunscreens go, I prefer a SPORTS Cream with an SPF around 50, (you can never be too careful!). They last longer and the Sports ones are waterproof. Spray sunscreens are great, too, especially when you don’t have anyone to apply sunscreen on your back! Despite how convenient spray sunscreens are, just be aware that you do have to reapply them more often than Sports waterproof sun screen.

IMG_2762

2. MAKEUP FOR SUMMER: If you feel like you need to wear makeup while on the beach, vacation, or lounging by the pool, first of all, DON’T wear a lot of makeup. It’s not a good look. I recommend a waterproof mascara, a lip stain, and also the brand, BARE MINERALS! I have talked about Bare Minerals since it first hit the market about ten or eleven years ago when they only had the Bare Minerals store – unlike now, where you can get it at many department stores. Bare Minerals is a great makeup brand, which originally had a powdered foundation, a cheek color, and a mineral veil (which gives an air brushed finished to your foundation.). The best thing about Bare Minerals, is that they all have SPF sunscreen in them without looking greasy.

I, of course, love the MATTE coverage foundation and mineral veil. Bare Minerals now has many different products, like delicate colored shadows and formulas. But, for me, I’m old-school and like the original powdered products. Another Bare Minerals bonus, besides the sunscreen in it, is that if you find your skin really dry during the warm months, they actually make hydrating foundations and powders. Plus, the coverage is fantastic. I recommend this brand for sunscreen on the face. You can even layer the foundations over a delicate swipe of regular sunscreen, let it sit for a minute, and then apply the sunscreen powdered foundation.

3. SUMMER ACCESSORIES: Whether you are at the beach or the pool, summer accessories are a must. Bring a big umbrella to cover your beautiful skin if you’re lounging on a bench with music or a good book. A big floppy hat and oversized sunglasses can also never hurt when it comes to covering up your precious skin. Oh, and of course, don’t walk out of the house without a cover up over your bathing suit!

My Night time Skincare Routine

Since I did a blog post and video on my morning skincare routine, I thought it was only fair and fitting to do a video and blog post on my nightly skincare ritual and to again list the products I use that work very well. If you use a product or have a different way of using skincare, by all means, do what works best for you. Enjoy this post and video and of course make sure to follow me here on my blog and subscribe to my channel if you haven’t done so yet.
